Despite their flat appearance, flat springs possess a slight curvature, essentially a cupped shape. This curvature serves the purpose of storing mechanical energy. When placed under a weight-bearing object, the cupped design allows the spring to compress. This compression enables the spring to store and release the object's energy. While the spring flattens, its cupped design enables it to exert a force against the object it is used in.
